Once the coffee is ground, it should be placed in the brewing chamber while the brewing chamber is upside down. Next, put a filter in the chamber cap. If using paper filters, the filter should be lightly wetted before putting the cap on the brew chamber. While this process is widely known and accepted, it has many potential flaws including uncontrolled extraction, and unwanted agitation.
