About this deal

A large screw or nail ‘sealed’ into the tread could cause more damage over time and could even lead to a blowout. You’ll then need to connect the compressor. This may connect to the tyre valve directly or to the bottle of sealant to help pump the sealant in. A post-puncture sealant like the one found in the Slime Smart Tyre Repair Kit is injected into your tyre after a puncture, to plug the hole and allow you to reinflate your tyre. This should give you enough time and mileage to get home or to the nearest garage for a repair.

Read the instructions on the repair kit before you start. If it’s different to our advice, always follow the instructions. Sealants coat the inside of the tire and wheel with a messy residue, which a tire shop has to clean out, possibly causing extra expense. They can potentially gum up the tire-pressure monitor sensor (TPMS), if so equipped, risking erroneous readings. Most products specifically claim that they are TPMS safe.

TIRE INFLATORS

Once you’re satisfied that you’ve repaired the tyre using the kit, drive your car to the nearest garage or tyre fitters to replace the tyre. A tyre that's been repaired with sealant will almost always need replacing, however small the puncture was. To properly spread the sealant around the inside of your tire, drive approximately 0.2 miles, then stop and verify that the sealant plugged your puncture and that the tire is holding air pressure. If you are installing Slime in a bicycle, simply spin the tire to evenly distribute the sealant. Run-flat tires sound great in concept. When punctured, they provide extended mobility in a “limp-home” mode at reduced speed and for a limited distance, much like a temporary spare tire—without the need to perform the dirty task of changing the tire. But run-flats can contribute to a firmer ride in general, and they are often expensive to replace and difficult to find in a hurry. The Slime sealant locates and instantly repairs punctures up to 6mm in diameter, and its water-based formula means that it’s environmentally friendly and easy to wash away. Plus, the tyre inflator is handy for other inflatables and comes in a zippered bag for easy storage in the boot. Can punctures be permanently repaired?

For emergency use only! Slime's Emergency Tyre Sealant is designed as a temporary formula in passenger vehicles and must be removed within 3 days or 100 miles

ROAD TRIP

Instantly, a mix of Slime Bike Tube Sealant and air will be pumped into your tyre, sealing any punctures and repairing your tyre from the inside out. To see how the latest products work, the Consumer Reports tire team evaluated seven common sealant models among three distinct types. Each is readily available in stores and online, and we bought multiple samples of each one for the project. You’ll need to use the compressor to re-inflate your tyre. It may also pump the sealant into the tyre at the same time. Dial display gauge is integrated right into the inflator, so you can monitor tyre pressure as you inflate Slime can be inserted with the valve stem located in any position, but it works best if you position the valve stem so it sits in the upper half of the tire.

The pressurized-can products could inflate the tire only to less than a quarter of the pressure recommended. Plus, they were not able to seal the same 5.8-mm puncture as the tire sealant kits could; tires continued to lose pressure after applying the sealant. Our evaluation clearly showed that the tire sealant kits were far superior to pressurized-can sealants. They were able to seal a larger puncture and have a compressor to inflate the flat tire to the recommended tire pressure of 35 psi for our Toyota Camry. In a pinch, a pressurized can sealant may be able to fix a small hole and allow the car to limp to the tire store for a full repair or tire replacement, provided you have a compressor to top off the tire pressure. The better investment is a tire sealant kit that has the ability to fix a punctured tire and inflate it to the recommended pressure as specified by your car’s tire information placard found on the driver’s door jamb. In addition, the kits evaluated can be safely stowed in the car, even a hot car. On a vacation, or during a busy day, a tire repair kit with a compressor would allow you to continue on route. They cost more, but based on our experience, the price is worthwhile. Considering that this car tyre sealant is relatively cheap, made in the UK and developed by the RAC, you cannot go wrong. It’s far cheaper than a replacement at a main dealer and its perfect to keep stored in your car for emergency use.Once you’ve found the puncture, you can re-position the wheel by driving forward a little to make it easier to repair. The Terra-S Sealant is another popular and highly rated formula that’s available in a choice of sizes. It comes as a 4 piece kit that allows you to easily deflate, seal and re-inflate your tyres in a matter of minutes at the roadside. We’ve taken our most popular tyre repair kit and given it an upgrade! Meet Slime Tyre Repair Kit Plus – your even easier alternative to a spare tyre. Now it only takes 2 simple steps to repair your emergency flat. You don’t even need to remove the valve core!

If you spot something like a nail or piece of glass that’s pierced the tyre, don’t try to take it out. That could make the hole bigger. You may be more familiar with puncture protection fluids and tyre sealants for bikes, but there are also variants that can be used in your vehicle’s tyres to treat flats. Slime’s range of easy-to-use sealants are the perfect solution to punctures. Post-puncture sealant kits But if that inner foam deadener is in the way, it will not work for many reasons! #1) the sealant will pool onto the sides of the inner tire because of the foam and not in the center where it would normally go. #2) If the puncture id from a small to medium object along the center of the tire, once removed the sound-deadening foam will prevent the air pressure to get the sealant to the inner surface and through the puncture hole. The tire sealant kits include both a can of sealant and a compressor that work together. The sealant is connected to the tire via a screw-on tube, and the compressor is plugged into a 12-volt power accessory port. With most kits, the compressor forces air through a container of tire sealant into the flat tire.

OFF-ROAD

The way its supposed to work on an non-sound-deadening tire is that after you remove the nail, the sealant is injected through the air valve along with the air from the pump. It then pools at the bottom of the tire (but the foam is in the way with a Tesla Tire) so when you drive off the sealant coats the entire inner surface of the tire, ON A NORMAL CAR. The air will then force the GOO sealant to enter the hole and plug it up...theoretically! (BTW, it's not permanent and the tire will need to be professionally repaired or replaced) Many sealant kits need you to drive a little way for the sealant to spread around the tyre. The kit will explain if you need to do this. If you are planning to use a pressurized-can product, it is wise to have a compressor handy to top-off the tire to its recommended inflation pressure. Further, the pressured-can products we evaluated warn not to store them inside a car because of temperature concerns; this could limit their use to your driveway.
