Too much rosemary. Rosemary burns my mouth and makes it numb, I don't know if I'm allergic to it or just hate the way it tastes that much, but I'm not taking any chances. I sat down over the next weekend and compiled a list of all these weird-to-me veggies and strange-to-me ingredients and hit the grocery store!Join local artists for an afternoon of community art and fun! Jewelry, clothing, home goods, watercolors, cookbooks, crafts and more. Join author Erin Gleeson for an in-person, in-store event in conversation with cookbook author Georgia Freedman who writes The California Table. The event is at Omnivore Books on Food in San Francisco and they’ll discuss Erin’s latest book, The Forest Feast Road Trip. There will be an author talk in the shop followed by an outdoor book signing with refreshments. I like the concept and I like the ideas. The book is broken down by occasion such as brunch or winter get together. It includes drink recipes, appetizers, mains, and more. There are even instructions on making edible table runners. Basically everything in this book looks incredible but doesn't feel super practical. There are a couple recipes that don't seem too time intensive I may try, but a lot of these seem like more work than I'm interested in doing for what is a pretty straightforward vegetarian meal. This A-frame had beautiful midcentury touches and was perched in the trees near Big Bear Lake. (Airbnb or VRBO, can't remember) Sponsored by synagogues and other Jewish organizations throughout the Peninsula and featuring a vast array of entertainment, activities, exhibits and presentations on sustainability, the fair will include a robust children’s program. Erin notes that few of the salad recipes are lettuce-based because she doesn't like washing salad. This is excellent reasoning and I heartily concur.My husband Jonathan is from New York City and we met when I was living in Manhattan during grad school. In 2011,just before we got married, he accepted a job as a rabbi in Silicon Valley which prompted our move to California. Unexpectedly we found an ad for a lovely little cabin in the woods that took my work in a direction I would have never imagined. I started my Forest Feast blog when we moved to the cabin just as a new personal project. Inspired by local, seasonal ingredients in our weekly CSA box, I created (and continue to make) “photographic recipe illustrations” that are mostly vegetarian and laid out visually. I am so grateful that the blog led to books and with it all, I hope to inspire healthy recipe ideas anyone can make–dishes that are easy enough after a long day at work, yet impressive enough for a party. Erin’s goal was to make her book “entertaining, approachable and fun”. She has accomplished her goal. The recipes are simple, contain easily obtainable ingredients and none look intimidating or time consuming.
